Don't be alone - here's how to get help ...

Police - You can call 999 to report a rape or an attempted sexual assault, and if you’re under 17, the Child Protection Unit will deal with your case.

Alternatively, you can contact a support organisation - see below.


Rape Crisis Centres are women-led and offer a range of support, advocacy, counselling and information in women-only safe space.

To speak to someone, Freephone 0808 802 9999. The lines are open between 12 noon - 2.30pm and 7 - 9.30pm every day of the year.

Rape Crisis - Scotland - For Rape Crisis Centres throughout Scotland, phone the free hotline between

Rape Crisis - Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland - To find Rape Crisis Centres and Sexual Assault Treatment Units (SATUs) across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland click here. There is also a 24 hour hotline run by Dublin Rape Crisis on 1800 778888.

Jersey action against Rape - Jersey Action Against Rape (JAAR) provides specialist counselling and helpline services to survivors of all forms of sexual violence and their families. Find more information about their work at the JAAR website - click here.
The rest of Europe - Rape Crisis Network Europe (RCNE) is the network of European centres that support survivors of sexual violence. To find out where you can get help and information in Europe - click here.
Victim Support - for women and men - you can phone and speak to someone whether or not you want to report the crime to the police. Call their supportline for free on 08 08 16 89 111.

SARC - Some areas have Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs) - use the NHS Choices tool to find one in your area. They can offer you medical support and collect evidence that can be used later.
            None of the above alternative organisations will make you report the assault to the Police unless you want to.

Rape Statistics

Rape Crisis member centres across England and Wales responded to 171,000 helpline calls in the 12 months to 31st March 2016, on average over 3,000 a week.

58,000 individuals received an on-going Rape Crisis service(s), an increase of 16% since 2014-15.

Rape Crisis members provided in excess of 350,000 sessions of specialist support, including advocacy, emotional support and counselling, an increase of 17% since 2014-15.

95% of all service users were female.

Where age is known, 1,700 were aged 15 or under, an increase of 13% on last year; those aged under 25 represented 33% of service users, an increase of 8%.
